Job summary

Orchard Recruitment Solutions Ltd is looking for an Assistant/Design Manager to join a Yorkshire contractor. The role focuses on supporting and managing the design process, with emphasis on Design & Build schemes and coordination of subcontractor design packages.

You will work with pre-construction and project teams to ensure designs are coordinated, compliant and delivered on programme. Experience in design coordination and subcontractor management is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction or design-related roles, preferably with a main contractor.
• Understanding of Design & Build projects and design coordination.
• Experience or exposure to subcontractor design management.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and information.
• Good knowledge of construction methods, materials and buildability.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
• Coordinate design information across multiple Design & Build projects.
• Manage and review subcontractor design packages, ensuring they meet project requirements and deadlines.
• Liaise with architects, consultants, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
• Review drawings and technical information, identifying potential design issues and discrepancies.
• Monitor design programmes and ensure information is issued and approved on time.
• Attend design team meetings and support discussions around buildability, value engineering and technical solutions.
• Work closely with site, commercial and project management teams to ensure designs are practical and deliverable.

The Client

We are working with an established regional contractor who is looking to appoint an Assistant / Design Manager to join its growing team. The business delivers a variety of construction projects across sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, industrial and residential.

The Role

The role will involve supporting and managing the design process across a range of projects, with a particular focus on Design & Build (D&B) schemes and the coordination of subcontractor design packages.

Working closely with the pre-construction and operational teams, you will help ensure designs are effectively coordinated, compliant and delivered in line with project programmes and specifications.
