The Role

The Design Manager is responsible for managing the engineering and engineering interfaces on the project, ensuring design execution meets Omexom's standards and client specifications, and that all design scope is appropriately allocated and compliant with legislation and risk management protocols.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Execute the project design to required standards, cost targets, and management system requirements.
• Develop and implement the design section of the project execution plan.
• Review and approve the project design schedule, ensuring understanding among all stakeholders.
• Provide guidance on potential issues to the commercial and cost management team.
• Build and maintain trustful relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Monitor and report on project design status, quality, costs, and schedule; recommend actions to the Project Manager.
• Manage the project design risk register and mitigation plans.
• Conduct weekly design interface meetings and participate in client progress meetings.
• Develop and implement the project design quality assurance program.
• Coordinate payments and claims with project management and commercial teams.
• Draft contractual correspondence related to design issues.
• Oversee the production of as-built drawings and project closeout activities.

Key interfaces

Engage with stakeholders including the Business Unit General Manager, Project Director, Project Managers, Bid Manager, Commercial Manager, Quality Manager, and external authorities and clients.

Person Specification

Qualifications and experience

• Relevant third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering and professional certifications.
• At least 6 years of design experience in the Electricity Supply industry, with knowledge of electrical power engineering principles.
• Familiarity with Transmission and Distribution standards and technologies, including HV substations, LVAC and DC systems, and protection relays.
• Experience with IEC 61850 applications and HV substation primary plant up to 400kV.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations for high voltage substations.
• Leadership experience in managing design teams and coordinating disciplines.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and commercial awareness skills.
