Job description

We're currently looking to recruit a Design Manager to support our South Wales Construction team.

Location: Cardiff

Contract: Permanent, full-time with agile working options available

Key Responsibilities

Due to growth, we are recruiting a Design Manager for our Western & Wales region to work on schemes including healthcare, MOD, MOJ, Education, and Commercial projects in South Wales. The role involves supporting project delivery during preconstruction and construction phases, working collaboratively with the project team to optimize outcomes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Compiling Consultant Appointments, aligning scope and responsibilities with stakeholder and contractual requirements, and contributing to subcontract design orders.
• Developing the Design Management Plan and implementing Kier's design processes, including client approvals and the development of the BEP.
• Understanding client briefs and contractor proposals to achieve optimal design solutions, eliminate defects, and improve buildability. Assisting in completing Inspection & Test Plans.
• Defining design outputs within release schedules to meet the Integrated Construction Programme and client sign-off, ensuring accurate and timely information release, and monitoring design progress.
• Managing the design process to meet or exceed customer requirements, and identifying risks to minimize financial exposure.
• Ensuring the design supply chain complies with CDM and BSA Regulations, supporting Kier in fulfilling duties as Principal Designer, and implementing Safe Design & Installation processes.
• Ensuring environmental, waste, and CO2 targets are met, and environmental protection measures are in place.

What do we need from you?

Applicants should have construction design experience, ideally with a Tier 1 contractor. Skills and attributes include:

• Previous experience in design management on construction projects
• HNC or higher in a construction or design-related discipline
• Ability to build relationships and engage stakeholders effectively
