Job description

United Infrastructure is a dynamic and rapidly expanding business, focused on delivering critical infrastructure projects, across the utility and social infrastructure sectors.

Our team of highly skilled and hardworking specialists deliver innovative solutions to the complex challenges our clients face.

Our company is split into two business areas:

Utility Infrastructure – Our team of Utility Infrastructure specialists design, build and maintain critical water, energy (gas), power and telecoms infrastructure, for the UK’s largest network owners and operators.

Social Infrastructure – Our team of Social Infrastructure specialists revitalise homes and communities by carrying out a wide range of work, from retrofit to refurbishment, and maintenance.

Equal Opportunities Statement - At United Infrastructure, we are committed to making every interaction a positive and inclusive experience. If there is anything we can do to support you, remove barriers, or make the process more accessible, please let us know — we want this to be the best possible experience for you.

At United Living Infrastructure, we're delivering major infrastructure projects that keep the UK connected.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Project Engineer to bridge the gap between design and construction, ensuring projects are technically coordinated, buildable and delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of project delivery, collaborating with designers, site teams, subcontractors and project managers to resolve technical challenges and ensure construction activities are fully prepared before work begins.

If you're a proactive engineer who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and seeing projects come to life, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As Project Engineer, you'll act as the technical link between design and construction across Access, Ground Investigation (GI), PRI, Overhead Line (OHL) and associated civil engineering works. You'll ensure that designs are practical, information is complete and construction teams have everything they need to deliver safely and efficiently.

You'll play a key role in identifying technical risks early, resolving engineering issues and ensuring work packages are fully coordinated before they reach site.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Coordinate day-to-day engineering activities between designers, subcontractors, site teams and project management.
  • Ensure drawings, specifications, surveys, ground investigation information and approvals are available before construction starts.
  • Review upcoming work packages, identifying missing information, technical constraints and constructability issues.
  • Raise and manage Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs) and design clarifications through to resolution.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces across access roads, drainage, earthworks, structures, platforms, Overhead Lines (OHL) and temporary works.
  • Support design reviews, constructability reviews and technical handovers into construction.
  • Identify design or site changes that impact scope, programme or cost, supporting the project change control process.
  • Assist with inspections, quality hold points and the resolution of technical defects or non-conformances.
  • Work closely with the Temporary Works Coordinator to ensure temporary works are correctly designed, approved and implemented.
  • Maintain accurate red-line drawings, as-built records and engineering handover documentation.
  • Report on technical risks, outstanding design information and overall workface readiness.
About You

You'll be a technically strong engineer with experience delivering complex infrastructure or civil engineering projects. You'll enjoy working collaboratively, be confident interpreting engineering information and have the ability to identify and resolve issues before they affect programme or construction.

You'll also have:

  • A Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Design Engineer or Design Coordinator on major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and construction documentation.
  • Practical knowledge of construction sequencing, constructability, temporary works and site engineering practices.
  • Experience managing technical queries, design changes, inspections and engineering close-out activities.
  • Good understanding of CDM Regulations, Safety by Design principles and engineering quality assurance processes.
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or be working towards professional registration.
  • Membership of a recognised engineering institution.
  • Experience within electricity transmission and distribution, overhead line or utilities infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of access roads, drainage, earthworks, structures, bridges, culverts, platforms or ground investigation.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and Common Data Environments (CDE).
