Job summary

Robert Bird Group, a leading global engineering consultancy, is seeking a Senior Engineer to take ownership of detailed structural design aligned with project programmes in a London area role. You will collaborate with other disciplines to ensure seamless integration and deliver a diverse portfolio including commercial, mixed-use and data centre projects.

The ideal candidate brings a degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, chartered status or active progression, and strong Eurocode knowledge.

Qualifications

• A degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering is required.
• Ideally Chartered/Incorporated with professional bodies.
• Experience with Eurocodes and design guidance.
• Proficiency in 3D structural design software such as Tekla, Revit or Robot.

Responsibilities

• Lead client liaison and support business development.
• Coordinate project delivery, resources and design documentation.
• Develop engineering solutions and lead design philosophy.
• Produce preliminary and detailed designs for temporary and permanent works.
• Carry out design checking, technical reporting and subcontractor coordination.
• Develop erection schemes and specialist engineering methodologies.
• Support Associates with resource planning and technical delivery.
• Support cost control, fee proposals and project variations.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to site teams.
• Ensure temporary works are designed, checked and constructed safely.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
• Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety and RBG procedures.

About The Role

As a Senior Engineer, you will take ownership of detailed structural design aligned with project programmes, collaborating closely with other disciplines to ensure seamless integration across the project team. You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects, including commercial developments, mixed-use schemes, and data centres.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead client liaison and support business development
• Coordinate project delivery, resources, and design documentation
• Develop engineering solutions and lead design philosophy
• Produce preliminary and detailed designs for temporary and permanent works
• Carry out design checking, technical reporting and subcontractor coordination
• Develop erection schemes and specialist engineering methodologies
• Support Associates and Associate Directors with resource planning, technical delivery, and project coordination
• Support cost control, fee proposals, and project variations
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to site teams
• Ensure temporary works are designed, checked and constructed safely
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development
• Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety and RBG procedures

The Ideal Candidate Will Bring

• A degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a strong interest in structural design
• Ideally working towards chartership with the IStructE or ICE, or already Chartered/IncorporatedDemonstrated experience and competency in structural design
• Flexibility and initiative to rise to challenging situations
• Ability to take on responsibility appropriate to capability
• Familiarity with Eurocodes and relevant design guidance
• Proficiency in 3D structural design software (e.g., Tekla, Revit, Robot, etc.)
• At least 1 year of being the project lead in a client facing role
