Job summary

M-Sport Limited, headquartered at Dovenby Hall, seeks an Electrical Design Engineer to advance high‑performance electrical systems for world‑class motorsport programmes. You will design and validate wiring harnesses, circuits and components, produce technical schematics and BOMs using 3D CAD (CATIA V5 preferred), and collaborate with mechanical, workshop and purchasing teams.

A background in motorsport engineering with strong attention to detail is essential, as you will support prototype

Qualifications

  • Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng in Motorsport Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Electrical Design Experience: Designing electrical systems, circuits, wiring harnesses or components in high-performance engineering.
  • CAD & Design Skills: Proficient in 3D CAD to create electrical schematics and documentation.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of electrical assembly, wiring harness manufacture and connectors.
  • Electrical Engineering Knowledge: Knowledge of electrical systems, sensors, actuators and vehicle architecture.
  • Attention to Detail: Produce accurate engineering documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication across disciplines.
  • Problem Solving: Logical, analytical troubleshooting.
  • Time Management: Manage workloads to meet deadlines.
  • IT Literacy: Proficient in MS Office and engineering software.

Responsibilities

Job description

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid and a variety of global customer racing activities. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit for an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our Design team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the design, development and continuous improvement of high-performance electrical systems and components used across our world-class motorsport programmes. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will be responsible for delivering innovative engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture, assembly and testing.

The role responsibilities include:

Electrical Design: Design and develop electrical systems, wiring harnesses, circuits and components using 3D CAD software, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability and manufacturing requirements.

CAD & Technical Documentation: Produce and maintain detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, bill of materials and supporting technical documentation to company standards.

Concept Development: Generate innovative electrical engineering concepts, evaluate design options and develop solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Electrical Analysis: Perform electrical calculations and design reviews to validate system performance functionality and reliability.

Design Validation: Support prototype manufacture, testing and development programmes, implementing design improvements based on test and operational feedback.

Engineering Change Control: Manage electrical design changes throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring accurate documentation and effective configuration control.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical design, electrical, workshop, purchasing, quality and event teams to ensure successful project delivery within demanding timescales.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve electrical system performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost efficiency across existing and future projects.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.

Electrical Design Experience: Experience designing electrical systems, circuits, wiring harnesses, or electrical components within a high-performance engineering environment.

CAD & Design Skills: Strong proficiency using 3D CAD software to create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and detailed engineering documentation.

Manufacturing Knowledge: Good understanding of electrical assembly, wiring harness manufacture, connectors, terminals and associated manufacturing processes.

Electrical Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, circuit design, electrical systems, sensors, actuators and vehicle electrical architecture.

Attention to Detail: High levels of accuracy and attention to detail when producing engineering documentation.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Problem Solving: A logical and analytical approach to troubleshooting and resolving electrical engineering challenges.

Time Management: Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.

IT Literacy: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.

Preferred Experience:

Experience using CAD software preferably CATIA V5.

Previous experience within motorsport, automotive or another high-performance engineering environment.

Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, CAN networks, data acquisition or control systems would be advantageous.
