Job summary

Compco Fire Systems Limited in the UK is seeking a Design Engineer to design detailed fire suppression systems for small and major works, meeting project plans, industry codes, and client standards. The role blends CAD design with mentoring and career growth.

Based in Worcester or Dudley Port, Tipton, hybrid working. You will collaborate with design, sales, estimating and contracts teams to deliver projects on time and on budget, while developing expertise in LPCB standards and BS EN 12845.

Qualifications

• Essential: Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
• Essential: Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Essential: Methodical with high attention to detail and deadlines.
• Essential: Clear verbal and written communication; ability to advise clients.

Responsibilities

• Designing detailed sprinkler systems in 2D and 3D, resolving clashes before site.
• Calculating hydraulic performance and producing schematics.
• Sizing fire pumps and tanks.
• Visiting sites to survey project scope.
• Collaborating with Design, Sales & Estimating and Contracts teams to meet deadlines and budget.
• Producing P&IDs, schedules (BOMs), builders work layouts and QA paperwork.
• Completing QA paperwork and tracking quantities against estimates.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for the design of detailed fire suppression systems for our small and major works projects, working to the project plan and to industry design codes, as well as client, insurer and building standards. You’ll work closely with our Design Team, Sales & Estimating and Contracts & QS teams so projects are delivered efficiently, on time and on budget.

What you will be doing

• Designing detailed sprinkler systems in 2D and 3D, and resolving clashes before they reach site

• Calculating and proving hydraulic performance, and producing the schematic diagrams that support it

• Sizing fire pumps and tanks

• Visiting sites to survey and understand each project’s scope

• Working with clients, Estimating and Contracts teams to deliver on time and on budget, and keeping clients informed of contract changes

• Attending Design Team meetings to coordinate services

• Producing P&IDs, schedules (BOMs), builders work layouts and QA paperwork, and tracking design quantities against the estimate

• Complete quality assurance paperwork and track design quantities against the estimate.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

• Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook and automation tools

• A methodical approach with high attention to detail.

• A track record of solving problems to deadlines.

• Clear verbal and written communication and the ability to advise clients on the best approach.

• CSCS Card.

Desirable

• Fire sprinkler design experience

• Familiarity with Canute software.

• Knowledge of BS 9251, BS 8489, BS 8458 and BS EN 12845.

• LPCB Basic or Intermediate examinations.
