Job summary

Sapien is seeking a hands-on Design Engineer / CAD Designer for our client in Leamington Spa. You will develop new products and produce detailed SolidWorks drawings, while supporting testing, production, and ongoing improvements.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years in design/CAD roles, strong SolidWorks and PDM skills, and a good understanding of manufacturing processes including casting and injection moulding. Flexible hours and 4-day week in the Leamington Spa office.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, GA drawings, manufacturing drawings and BOMs using SolidWorks
• Develop new and existing products from concept through to detailed design, testing and production
• Improve products with focus on DFM, cost reduction, material selection and performance
• Design components for casting, injection moulding and machining
• Work with operations to develop test equipment and production solutions
• Support engineering changes and continuous improvement projects
• Carry out calculations and design studies to validate designs
• Collaborate across teams during development and launches
• Support CMM and metrology inspection of components
• Investigate design/manufacturing issues and identify solutions

Job description

Sapien is looking for a Design Engineer / CAD Designer for our client based in Leamington Spa.

This is a hands on Mechanical Design Engineer role, covering everything from developing new products and producing detailed SolidWorks drawings through to manufacturing, testing and ongoing product improvements.

We're open to experienced Design Engineers, but also CAD Engineers and candidates who have moved into design from an assembly or manufacturing background. If you understand how products are made and assembled and have good CAD skills, we'd be interested in speaking with you.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, GA drawings, manufacturing drawings and BOMs using SolidWorks.
• Develop new and existing products from concept through to detailed design, testing and production.
• Improve existing products with a focus on DFM, cost reduction, material selection and performance.
• Design components and assemblies for different manufacturing processes, including castings, injection moulding and machining.
• Work with operations and manufacturing teams to develop test equipment and production solutions.
• Support engineering changes and continuous improvement projects.
• Carry out calculations and design studies to check and validate designs.
• Work closely with different teams throughout product development and product launches.
• Support CMM and metrology inspection of new and existing components.
• Investigate design and manufacturing issues and help identify practical solutions.

Essential Experience

• At least 3 years' experience as a Design Engineer, CAD Engineer or in a similar role.
• Experience using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
• Experience designing components and assemblies for manufacture.
• Good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, ideally including castings, injection moulding and machining.
• Good understanding of DFM and engineering design principles.

Hours & Working Pattern

• 4 days per week in the office in Leamington Spa.
• 36.5 hours per week.
• Very flexible working hours, with flexible start and finish times.
• As long as you complete your 36.5 hours each week, there is flexibility around when you start and finish your working day.
