Job summary

Ifor Williams Trailers Ltd in the UK is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our Design Hub. You will develop robust mechanical designs from concept to production, working across a cross-functional team and site-to-site travel.

A strong background in 3D CAD and SolidWorks, plus a hands-on approach, is essential for delivering high-quality trailer solutions. The role offers opportunities to influence products across our extensive trailer range and to contribute to design for manufacture

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience delivering relatable mechanical products.
• SolidWorks experience essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide robust, innovative designs that meet requirements.

Position: Design Engineer

Role & Responsibilities:

Your primary focus will be to ensure that robust designs are produced using best practice and conform to all company and legislative requirements.

Working as part of the wider project team, you will ensure that the project is planned, agreed and delivered cross functionally from concept to production implementation.

This is an exciting and varied role that will mean you will get involved with all areas of engineering and have a significant influence within the business. Ultimately you will get the opportunity to design an entire product.

We have opportunities for both product design and also tooling, jig and fixture engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Provide robust and innovative high-quality designs that meet all customer and stakeholder requirements. Ensure that designs are produced using best practice and conform to all company and legislative requirements.

• Ensure all designs you are responsible for are appropriately validated


• Actively and constructively participate in design reviews.


• Take ownership and responsibility for design projects you are responsible for and elevate any risks in a timely manner


• Support resolution of customer, operational or quality issues with all products you are responsible for


• Continuously improve the existing IWT product portfolio through Design led VAVE initiatives, modular / commonality concepts, and design for manufacture improvement programmes


• Actively contribute to the creation and maintenance of IWT design processes and standards


• Preparation for thorough and concise technical reports where required to support your design activities

Essential Skills / Experience

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent training and experience


• Demonstrable delivery of relatable products and / or engineering activities


• 3D CAD modelling and detail drafting experience (preferably Solid works)


• Evidence of good project management skills

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Automotive, industrial or agricultural / off-road engineering


• Chassis and axle/suspension design


• Welded fabrication design

Summary:

• Monday to Friday 8am 5pm


• Office based at our purpose built, state-of-the-art Design Hub at Boundary Park where all design and prototype activities are based.


• Travel between our manufacturing sites will be required


• 33 days holiday per year
