Job summary

Morson Edge in Huddersfield is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established defence engineering business. You will design high-integrity gearboxes and transmission systems, producing detailed 2D/3D models and drawings for demanding defence applications.

You will develop new designs, adapt existing products for specialist applications, and create supporting equipment while collaborating with manufacturing and supply chain teams.

Qualifications

• Mechanical design engineering experience within a precision engineering, heavy engineering or similar environment.
• Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally using Solid Edge.
• Experience producing detailed component and assembly drawings.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical transmission systems, gearboxes and precision-engineered components.
• Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation.
• Develop new designs and adapt existing products for specialist applications.
• Design supporting equipment, including couplings, lubrication systems and gearbox test equipment.
• Interpret technical specifications, engineering standards and geometric tolerances.
• Produce bills of materials, technical documentation and engineering change records.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, production engineering, supply chain and analysis teams.
• Support design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA and continuous improvement activities.

Morson Edge is recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established defence engineering business in Huddersfield.

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging mechanical engineering projects, designing high-integrity gearboxes, geared transmission systems and associated components for demanding defence applications.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical transmission systems, gearboxes and precision-engineered components.

Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation.

Develop new designs and adapt existing products for specialist applications.

Design supporting equipment, including couplings, lubrication systems and gearbox test equipment.

Interpret technical specifications, engineering standards and geometric tolerances.

Produce bills of materials, technical documentation and engineering change records.

Skills & Experience
