Job summary

SThree in London is seeking a Design Engineer on a contract basis to translate concepts into manufacturable products that meet quality and performance standards.

You will contribute across the full design lifecycle, collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and compliant with ISO 9001. Strong CAD skills and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent required.
• Proficient in CAD software and GD&T principles.

• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with manufacturing and quality.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design and development of mechanical, electrical or control systems from concept to production.
• Create design documentation, drawings, specifications and reports per ISO 9001.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality assurance and project management to ensure manufacturability.
• Participate in design reviews, tolerance analysis and failure mode assessment.
• Support prototype development and testing activities.
• Coordinate with suppliers on component specifications and queries.

What You Would Do

• Contributing to the design and development of mechanical, electrical or control systems from initial concept through to production
• Supporting the creation of design documentation, drawings, specifications and technical reports to ISO 9001 standards
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance and project management to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet requirements
• Participating in design reviews, tolerance analysis and failure mode assessment
• Supporting prototype development and testing activities
• Liaising with suppliers and external partners on component specifications and technical queries
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and design process refinement

What You Could Bring

Most roles of this type require the following:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls or equivalent)
• Proficiency in CAD software (such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent)
• Working knowledge of design principles, tolerance analysis and GD&T
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management standards
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving
• Authorization to work in the United Kingdom

Nice-to-have experience could include:

• Experience in regulated industries or ISO 13485 (medical device) environments
• Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) or simulation tools
