An exciting opportunity exists for a Speciality Doctor in Dermatology at NHS, aimed at enhancing patient care and reducing waiting times. The role involves conducting outpatient clinics across multiple hospitals, supporting service development, and ensuring adherence to quality standards. The position requires a strong background in dermatology, evidenced by MRCP or equivalent qualifications.

to ensure patients are treated in the most appropriate place.
The majority of dermatology treatment and investigation is outpatient based. With the appointment of the new Speciality Doctor in Dermatology we hope to improve the current service by reducing waiting times and increasing patient choice. The successful applicant will hold clinics at Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow, St Margaret's Hospital and Herts & Essex Hospital thus providing all patients with a choice of doctor and site subject to availability of clinic rooms.
The postholder will be expected to support strategies to speed up access to outpatient services and to help revise and activate the protocols for shared care of common dermatological problems in conjunction with the Intergrated Care Board (ICB). This will include service development, training and audit.
Support is provided to the Speciality Doctors by the Consultants in a number of outpatient clinics. Some Dermatology Clinics run parallel to each other on same sites offering the opportunity to discuss cases with colleagues. Nurse led clinics will also run alongside doctor led clinics.
Main duties of the jobThe speciality doctor will be responsible for continued professional development and take part in continuing medical education activities, in line with the requirements of the appropriate Royal College guidelines to maintain standards of performance. They will participate in an annual appraisal and maintain a personal development plan agreed at this appraisal.
The post holder will need a named Responsible officer and a Designated Body. For those without this in place it can be agreed that this will become the Trust.
Education and Research
A key responsibility of the post will be the self-development through education.
Clinical research is encouraged within the Trust and facilities in place to enable the post holder to undertake research projects in his/her area of interest.
The Trust has an active R&D department led by a Clinical Director and team of specialist nurses. You will have a named Educational Supervisor and protected time.
Management and Administration
The post holder will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and will undertake administration duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of his/her team. The nature of the service will necessitate close liaison with the Clinical Lead and Service Manager to provide clinical input to the business planning process and assistance with the service development on a regular basis. Administration staff are available to support.
