Job summary

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal in Manchester is seeking a Deputy Ward Manager to join our mixed PICU ward on a 37.5-hour week. The role requires active NMC registration and 18–24 months post-registration experience, with strong leadership and clinical oversight.

You will lead shifts, supervise nursing staff, promote safety and a therapeutic environment, and contribute to multidisciplinary care for adults and young people.

Qualifications

• Active Nursing/Midwifery Council registration required.
• 18–24 months post-registration experience.

Responsibilities

• Works as a Senior Nurse, ensuring a safe, therapeutic and inclusive environment for patients, families and visitors while applying relevant policies, statutory requirements and governance standards.
• Assesses and manages risks, maintains safe staffing and skill mix, and promotes diversity and inclusion.
• Supervises and develops nursing staff through CPD, mandatory training, appraisal and clinical supervision, addressing performance concerns and supporting junior staff and student nurses.
• Provides and evaluates therapeutic interventions for individuals with mental health and/or learning disability needs, promotes collaborative problem-solving and risk management, and contributes effectively to multidisciplinary working.
• Acts as Named Nurse and Associate Nurse, regularly leads shifts, undertakes agreed ward lead roles, deputises for the Ward Manager when required, and supports recruitment and retention.
• Adheres to all national, company and local standards, policies and procedures while promoting a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal has an opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager with an Active Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council to join our team on our mixed PICU ward.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal, Stockport is an inpatient mental health service for young people and adults. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Wilmslow Road and Cheadle Hulme and East Didsbury railway stations approximately 1-2 miles from the service.

• At least 18 Months - 2 years' experience post-registration
• Demonstrable expertise within a clinical speciality
