Job summary

Brent Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Complex Long-Term OT Team as Deputy Team Manager. This senior role combines advanced clinical expertise with leadership and service development within Adult Social Care.

You will supervise Occupational Therapists, manage complex cases, oversee major adaptations, and contribute to service development while supporting the Team Manager and representing the service in key meetings.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Adult Social Care.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or managing staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex moving & handling and major adaptations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision to Occupational Therapists and Advanced Practitioners.
  • Lead complex case management, including risk assessments and equipment provision.
  • Oversee major adaptations, housing reports and rehousing recommendations.
  • Ensure quality assurance of assessments and promote person-centred decisions.
  • Facilitate training and workforce development within the team.
  • Lead referral pathways, duty and triage for the team.

Salary range: £52,194 - £55,323 p.a. inc. London weighting

  • A £5,000 ‘golden hello’ for OTs new to Brent, upon completion of their probationary period.
  • An annual retention payment of £3,000 for eligible frontline workers and managers from Grade PO2 – PO7

Contract: Permanent

Hours of work: 36 hours per week

Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time

The Post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapy Deputy Team Manager to join the Complex Long-Term OT Team within Adult Social Care at the London Borough of Brent.

This is a senior leadership role for an experienced Occupational Therapist who combines advanced clinical expertise with strong supervisory and service development skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision to Occupational Therapists and Advanced Practitioners, promoting high-quality strengths-based practice.
  • Lead on Complex case management, including manual handling risk assessments, specialist equipment provision and risk management planning.
  • Provide expert oversight of major adaptations, including specifications, housing reports, rehousing recommendations and void assessments.
  • Ensure quality assurance of complex Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, promoting safe, defensible and person-centred decision-making.
  • Facilitate training, reflective practice and workforce development, including mentoring Trusted Assessors and supporting wider Adult Social Care colleagues.
  • Lead and coordinate on referral pathways, duty and triage for the team
  • Contribute to service development, partnership working.
  • Support and deputise for the Team Manager as required and represent the service at operational and strategic meetings.
The Person

We are looking for a confident and experienced Occupational Therapist with strong leadership skills and substantial experience of working with adults with complex physical, functional and long-term social care needs.

You Will Have
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Adult Social Care.
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or managing staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex moving & handling, specialist equipment and major adaptations, including specifications.
  • Experience of housing-related assessments, housing/void reports and recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Housing legislation and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Experience of facilitating learning, supporting practice development and providing professional advice across multidisciplinary settings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complexity and competing priorities.
