Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Support Team Leader/Matron to ensure clinical environment is safe, clean, comfortable and well maintained in line with patient and public expectations.
- Ensure delivery of care to all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader.
- Ensure self and team members provide a personalised service to patients in accordance with agreed standards and promotes quality, diversity and rights.
- Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care to optimum levels and lead improvement of care through benchmarking, audit and research.
- In the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader ensure adequate support, safe mentorship and supervision of learner nurses and staff.
- Proactively seek feedback on patient and public experience in order to address concerns in a timely manner and build on success.

Essential criteria
- Proven post registration experience within speciality
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise
- Good understanding of quality, safety and risk management.
- Knowledge of the role in the context of local and National plans and professional strategies to deliver services within the current and future NHS.
- Experience of Patient and Public Involvement and qualitative data collection application to improving patient experience.
- Able to undertake the role of Practitioner in Charge and lead a Theatre on a day to day basis
Desirable criteria
- Development of multi- disciplinary working practices
- Demonstrates knowledge of clinical risk management Audit experience / research skills
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / Registered Degree in nursing or Operating Departmental Practitioner
- Recognised NMC/HCPC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent experience
- Evidence of Post registration Educational Continuing development
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Completed Preceptorship programme
- Completed core competencies related to Theatre speciality
Desirable criteria
- Degree in nursing or health related subject
- Clinical Leadership Programme(e.g. LEO, RCN, ILM)

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
