Job description

The Week Junior is a multi-award-winning 32-page weekly news magazine for 8-to-14-year olds. It nurtures children’s natural curiosity and helps them make sense of the world. Its 50-page sister title, The Week Junior Science+Nature is published every four weeks and takes a deep dive into subjects and stories connected to STEM, animals and the environment.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Picture Editor, you'll source images for both titles including the print magazines, digital resources and social media. From finding sensitive ways to illustrate serious news events to uncovering amazing images of animals and finding creative ways to illustrate abstract scientific concepts, you'll ensure that every single picture is eye-catching, accurate and age-appropriate.

You'll also contribute to additional projects – such as brand extensions – and you'll deputise for the picture editor and oversee freelance staff too.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
  • Experience working in editorial print publications, with a track record in obtaining/selecting appropriate visuals for a very wide range of subjects.
  • Knowledge of image rights and copyright
  • Extensive knowledge of image agencies and press organisations, experience in finding and onboarding new sources and a creative approach to obtaining unusual / non-licensable images.
  • A visual/creative mindset, with an understanding of the interests of a young audience and what appeals to them.
  • Experience with budget control and related administration

What's in it for you

The expected range for this role is £27,500 - £40,000

This is a Hybrid role from our London Office, working three days from the office, two from home

… Plus more great perks, which include;
  • Uncapped leave, because we trust you to manage your workload and time
