Job summary

Pixieland Saltash is seeking a dedicated Deputy Manager to lead our nursery team. You will work under the Manager’s direction, deputise in their absence, and help maintain high standards of childcare and education.

The role focuses on team leadership, safeguarding, staff development, and close liaison with parents and external agencies. A DBS check is required; NVQ Level 3 in childcare and at least two years’ experience are expected, with ongoing training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must hold NVQ Level 3 in childcare or above.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in childcare.
• Disclosure Barring Service check is required.
• Continuous training and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Manager and lead the nursery team under their direction.
• Maintain high standards of childcare, education and safety.
• Monitor provision and support staff development and training.
• Liaise with parents, colleagues and external agencies as needed.
• Assist in staff scheduling, administrative tasks and room observations.
• Ensure confidentiality of all sensitive information.

• Working under the Manager’s direction and deputising in their absence
• Supporting the nursery’s aims and objectives and helping in high-quality establishment management
• Ensuring high standards of childcare and education, including monitoring and provision review
• Leading and supporting staff, promoting an enabling environment for children
• Promoting the nursery’s aims and maintaining high standards at all times
• Assisting in operational management, including staffing schedules and administrative tasks
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and maintaining high hygiene levels
• Supporting early identification and intervention for children with special needs
• Maintaining confidentiality of all sensitive information
• Assisting in staff development and training
• Liaising with parents, staff, and external agencies as required
• Involvement in out-of-hours activities such as training, meetings, and events
• Carrying out room and peer observations
