Job summary

Borras Park Full Day Care Provision is seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to join our childcare team at Borras Park Community Primary School. You will support the Manager, lead day-to-day operations, and deliver high-quality play-based learning across our settings.

This maternity cover role requires leadership, safeguarding knowledge and a passion for child development. We offer an inclusive environment and the chance to lead a skilled staff team within Flying Start and funded nursery

Qualifications

• Essential Level 3 Childcare qualification or above.
• Significant experience in an early years or childcare setting.
• Experience supervising, leading or supporting staff.
• Excellent knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and welfare requirements.
• Strong understanding of Welsh Government framework and funded nursery curriculum.
• Knowledge of CIW, Estyn, National Minimum Standards and relevant childcare legislation.
• Experience planning, observation and assessment in early years.
• Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.
• Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards Level 5.

Responsibilities

• Support the Manager in daily operation and leadership of the setting.
• Lead in the Manager's absence to ensure continuity of service and high standards.
• Monitor staffing levels and child-to-adult ratios to ensure statutory compliance.
• Support staff development, supervision, training, rotas and administrative processes.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff and external agencies.
• Support safeguarding responsibilities and act as Safeguarding Lead in the Manager's absence.
• Assist in maintaining records, documentation and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and supervise practitioners in planning, observations, assessments and play experiences.
• Support staff in play-based learning approaches including Curiosity Approach and Playwork Curriculum.
• Ensure all curriculum areas for funded nursery settings and Developmental pathways are delivered.
