Job summary

Lime Tree Education Search Ltd is assisting an independent specialist SEND school in Birmingham to appoint a Deputy Headteacher focused on Quality of Education. The role collaborates with the Headteacher and leadership team to drive teaching, curriculum and school improvement across KS3, KS4 and post-16.

The successful candidate will bring senior leadership experience in specialist SEND, deep knowledge of autism needs, and strong skills in curriculum development, assessment and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Proven senior leadership experience within education.
• Detailed understanding of autism and educational needs of pupils with autism and other SEND.
• Experience leading and developing teachers and building leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment and using evidence to improve teaching and outcomes.
• Thorough understanding of the Ofsted inspection framework, with experience of inspections.
• Strong knowledge of the Independent School Standards (ISS) and operating within independent school settings.
• Experience of ISI inspection would be highly desirable.
• Understanding of wider operational and commercial considerations in running an independent specialist setting.
• Ability to build strong relationships with parents, local authorities and other professionals.
• Excellent safeguarding knowledge and commitment to vulnerable learners’ welfare and progression.

Responsibilities

• Lead Quality of Education across the school, with responsibility for teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment and school improvement.
• Provide visible educational leadership, develop staff, and use assessment/evidence to drive improvement while ensuring curriculum meets pupil needs across KS3, KS4 and post-16.
• Oversight of safeguarding, staff development, school improvement, admissions and referrals, stakeholder relationships and regulatory compliance.
