Deputy Headteacher (Teaching, Learning and Student Progress)
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Salary: MPS/UPS; £31,650 - £49,084 per annum
Start Date: September 2025

GSL Education are seeking an experienced Deputy Headteacher (Teaching, Learning and Student Progress) to join an Ofsted rated “Outstanding” Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2025.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational leadership of the school. Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, you will drive high-quality teaching and learning, maximise student progress, and uphold the Christian ethos that defines the school community.

Deputy Headteacher Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership for teaching and learning, ensuring a consistent, high-impact classroom experience across all departments.
• Lead whole-school strategies to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps.
• Support and challenge middle leaders to maintain high standards of teaching, curriculum delivery, and assessment.
• Promote a strong culture of professional development, coaching, and staff wellbeing.
• Contribute to school evaluation and development planning, as well as external accountability frameworks (e.g., Ofsted, SIAMS).

Deputy Headteacher Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Significant teaching experience, often with prior middle or senior leadership.
• Strong knowledge and experience of curriculum design, assessment, and quality assurance.
• Proven track record of improving student outcomes and leading school improvement.
• Be able to provide 2 relevant references within the last 2 years.
• Have an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the update service (or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education).
