Job description
Role Overview

The Deputy Estate Service Operative will be based at Brickfield House, a block designated for vulnerable temporary accommodation tenants. The role focuses on ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for residents, conducting welfare checks, maintaining clear escape routes, and keeping signage and information up to date.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular welfare checks in communal areas.
  • Maintain clear and safe escape routes.
  • Ensure all tenant‑support signage and information is visible and current.
  • Liaise with temporary accommodation council officers and housing team to raise tenant wellbeing or safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Address anti‑social behaviour, reporting incidents according to council protocols.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as changing bins, removing litter, handling sharps, low‑level graffiti removal, hard‑surface weed removal, and basic handy person duties.
  • Respond to requests from the line manager and report inspection faults.
  • Undergo health and safety training, keep current with PPE, COSHH assessments, risk assessments, incident reporting and legislative changes.
Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should have experience in estate maintenance or a similar role, a working knowledge of health and safety procedures, and the ability to communicate effectively with residents and council officers. Attending local training on new tools, equipment and cleaning techniques is required.

Work Hours

Weekend shift pattern (Wednesday to Sunday) at 36 hours per week.
