Job description

Deputy Engineering Manager

Location: Stagecoach Bow Bus Garage, Fairfield Rd, Bow, London, E3 2QP

Salary: £61,757.09 per annum plus an annual shift allowance of £3,542.67

Come and join us as a Deputy Engineering Manager at Bow garage working for a sustainable, diverse and community-focused employer who puts its people at the heart of its business, whilst delivering contracted bus services on behalf of Transport for London.

Keeping London’s people moving and the safety and support of our people is paramount. Our vision is to help people lead more sustainable lives, harnessing new and greener technology, whilst protecting our people and customers.

We are looking for a Deputy Engineering Manager to assist the Engineering Manager in the day-to-day management of the engineering function at our Bow garage in east London. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our fleet of buses are maintained to the standard required by the Company, TfL, and the DVSA. Your role will involve achieving maximum vehicle availability, continually improving standards, and directly influencing Health & Safety compliance/culture, fatigue management, and employee wellbeing.

You should have a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance procedures for large vehicles, preferably PCVs, as well as knowledge of electrical engineering, bodywork construction, and basic stores procedures. The ability to gain a Transport CPC, if requested, is essential. Planning, prioritising, analysing, and decision-making skills are also crucial, along with an up-to-date understanding of Health & Safety legislation.

Bow garage operates a varied range of double deck and single deck buses including the New Routemaster of London and new mirrorless buses. It will shortly have a fleet of electric vehicles. As part of our engineering management team, you’ll be key to making sure our vehicles are in top condition to transport our customers around the area.

If you have an engineering supervisory or management background working with large vehicles, we can’t wait to receive your application!

Aside from the reward of helping to deliver an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:

  1. Great benefits: competitive salary, company pension scheme, free financial education, and a range of money-saving opportunities.
  2. Free travel: for you and a household member on TfL bus and rail services, and outside London, free travel for you and a companion on Stagecoach buses.
  3. UK-wide opportunities: career development and secondment opportunities to work elsewhere in our UK business.
  4. Employee assistance programme: to support health and wellbeing through a confidential service available 24 hours a day.
  5. Great working environment: with opportunities to make new friends and build inclusive environments.

Stagecoach is proudly an inclusive employer, striving for a culture where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences people bring are truly appreciated. We welcome applications from all, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, or age.
