Job summary

Babcock International in Plymouth, Devon, is seeking a Deputy Design and Safety Manager to lead engineering activities within the Devonport Dockyard. You will support the Design Authority team and shape safety-critical submarine maintenance programmes.

This full-time role (35 hours per week on site) requires strong leadership, nuclear engineering knowledge, and stakeholder engagement to ensure regulatory and safety compliance across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Science; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Significant leadership experience in engineering teams.
• Extensive knowledge of nuclear engineering principles and submarine infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for safe operation of submarine maintenance infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance across design, safety, and engineering programmes.
• Support the Design Authority in delivering high-integrity engineering solutions and safety outcomes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enable programme delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement while ensuring regulatory, safety, and quality compliance.
