Job summary

Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration is recruiting a Deputy Data Protection Officer to support Head Office and Localities in meeting UK data protection obligations. The role is permanent, part-time (21–24.5 hrs/week) with hybrid working and a pro rata salary of £41,773–£42,817.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or substantial equivalent experience and ideally a Data Protection qualification (BCS Practitioner Certificate) with funded study if not already held.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or significant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or commitment to obtain within six months, funded by SCRA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance to Localities and Head Office to ensure compliance with data protection obligations.
  • Analyse complex queries and develop practical, proportionate solutions balancing risk, compliance and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support information governance.

Job description

Deputy Data Protection Officer, Head Office

Permanent Part-time
21 – 24.5 hrs per week, Thursday is a required working day; all other working days are flexible and can be agreed upon
Based at any mainland SCRA office (subject to office capacity), with hybrid working arrangements available
£41,773 – £42,817 (pro rata)

Reporting to the Information Governance Manager/Data Protection Officer, you will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to Localities and Head Office to ensure SCRA meets its obligations under UK Data Protection laws.

Educated to degree level or with significant experience in a similar role, you will ideally have knowledge and understanding of SCRA’s responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR.

With excellent communication skills, you will have proven ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You must also be able to analyse complex queries and develop practical, proportionate solutions that balance risk, compliance and operational needs.

The successful candidate should hold a BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or similar qualification. Or have a willingness to study and obtain this certificate within six months of commencing the role, which would be fully funded by SCRA.
