Job summary

Stretton Hall Nursing Home in All Stretton, Church Stretton, SY6 6HG is seeking a Deputy Chef to support the Head Chef with meal preparation for residents, including holiday cover.

You will follow established menus, supervise and train junior kitchen staff, ensure food safety, hygiene, and COSHH compliance, and maintain kitchen cleanliness and security.

The role offers full-time hours (30 per week) with alternate weekend work and opportunities for ongoing training and development.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work toward NVQ Level 2 in Catering
  • Experience in health care catering is beneficial but not essential
  • Commitment to food safety and hygiene policies

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and cooking meals following Head Chef's menus
  • Supervise and train junior kitchen staff in catering duties
  • Ensure correct labeling, storage and dating of all ingredients
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and appliance care
  • Follow health and safety, COSHH, and infection-control procedures
  • Assist in securing the kitchen when leaving duties
  • Attend in-service training on safety and hygiene
  • Assist in monitoring resident safety and reporting incidents

Job description

Deputy Chef
Hours: Full Time 30 hours per week - Monday to Sunday (Alternate Weekends)
Location: Stretton Hall Nursing Home, All Stretton, Church Stretton, SY6 6HG

At Stretton Hall Nursing Home, we are looking for a Deputy Chef to assist in the preparation and cooking of food for our residents. This role is also to cover for holidays and absence of the current Head Chef.

Duties of the deputy chef include:
  • To assist in the preparation and cooking of food following menus already prepared by the Head Chef and Group Catering Manager
  • To take personal responsibility in becoming fully aware of Health & Safety at Work Policies in particular Fire Procedures, Control of Infection, COSHH and Lifting and Handling Policies
  • To supervise and help train junior staff in catering duties.
  • To train junior staff in all Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and COSHH regulations and ensuring their compliance with the same.
  • To ensure the correct labelling and storage of food at all times.
  • To assistant kitchen staff with washing up.
  • To clean and maintain kitchen appliances, surfaces and floors as per cleaning schedule.
  • To ensure the kitchen is locked and secure before going off duty.
  • To attend in-service training for Moving and Handling Infection Control Fire Safety Basic Food Hygiene COSHH
  • To assist in ensuring the security of all residents and the premises through the observance of security procedures and the challenging of any strangers in the Home.
  • To ensure all accidents, incidents and complaints are recorded and reported.
Experience of the deputy chef
  • Previous experience of work within a health care setting is not essential, but may be an advantage, for example experience of a nursing home, hospital or working with clients with disability and/or dementia
  • Must already have or be willing to work towards NVQ Level 2 in Catering which Morris Care will fully support.
