Midlothian currently has 6 secondary schools, 30 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 2 standalone nurseries. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. School sizes range from approximately 20 pupils in our smallest primary to over 1200 in our largest secondary. Our catchment areas are diverse, spanning rural to urban settings. We have experienced growth in new build schools, with 13 primary and 1 secondary school built in the last decade, and plans for more.

Pre-Employment Checks/Requirements for Teaching Positions
If successful, employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including medical screening, two references (one from your most recent employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are also required.

Regulated Work with Children
This role is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Applicants barred from working with children are ineligible. Successful candidates will need a PVG Scheme membership, which involves a fee (£59 for full membership, payable via salary deduction over 6 pay periods; £18 for updates, payable over 2 pay periods). Existing employees will have the fee covered by the Council. The fee must be re-paid if employment ends before full repayment.
Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Disclosures should be sent confidentially to the Employment and Reward Manager. Having a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify an applicant; suitability depends on the nature of the offence and the role.
