Job summary

The Alan Turing Institute invites you to lead the design and delivery of practical AI deployment tools, frameworks and guidance to help organisations adopt AI at scale. You will work across the BridgeAI programme, combining hands-on product development with advisory support and engaging senior stakeholders.

This full-time fixed-term role (to 2030) offers a salary of £73,720–£78,750 with a flexible hybrid working model and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• Experienced AI/ML/data science professional with a track record deploying AI in real-world environments.
• Ability to lead teams, manage product development initiatives and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong understanding of AI governance, assurance and translating complex concepts into actionable outcomes.

Job description

This is an opportunity to lead the design and delivery of practical AI deployment tools, frameworks and guidance that help organisations adopt AI successfully at scale. Working across the BridgeAI programme, you'll combine hands-on product development with direct advisory support, helping organisations navigate the technical, operational and governance challenges of AI deployment. You'll also play a key leadership role, managing team members, engaging senior stakeholders and shaping the programme's long-term impact through reusable products, best practice guidance and industry engagement.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for an experienced AI, machine learning or data science professional with a strong track record of helping organisations deploy AI solutions in real-world environments. You'll combine deep technical expertise with experience developing practical tools, frameworks and guidance that drive adoption at scale. The role holder will be comfortable leading teams, managing product development initiatives and engaging with stakeholders at all levels. A strong understanding of AI governance and assurance, alongside the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable outcomes is essential for this role.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Develop a portfolio of interactive digital tools and structured guidance products to support organisations at key stages of the AI deployment journey, including readiness assessment, use case validation, risk identification and assurance planning.
• Own the product development roadmap, balancing near-term programme needs with the longer-term value of outputs designed to outlast and extend beyond the programme.
• Ensure products are designed for broad adoption: accessible, well-documented and usable by practitioners across sectors without specialist support.
• Contribute to programme-level artefacts including deployment templates, assurance frameworks, integration guidance and benefits evidence that support future AI deployers.
• Provide technical deployment guidance covering site readiness, governance approvals, workflow implications, change management and staff capability requirements.
• Advise on AI safety, ethics and assurance, drawing on recognised frameworks including ISO/IEC 42001, ISO/IEC 23894, NIST AI RMF and UK GDPR / DPA 2018.
• Conduct end-user readiness assessments and provide evidence-based input to programme stage gates and funding decisions.
• Line manage the Impact & Data Manager.
• Support public dissemination activities including workshops, publications and open tools that promote AI deployment best practice across UK industry.
• Engage with sector bodies, regulators and Innovate UK partners.

Term and Conditions

The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.
