A leading university is seeking a fixed-term Departmental Lecturer in Linguistics for three years. The role involves teaching, research, and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly in French linguistics and other Romance languages. The Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics is seeking a fixed-term Departmental Lecturer to assume teaching, research and examining responsibilities for three years.
The scope of the role reflects the Faculty’s differing needs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergraduate level, the ability to offer teaching in linguistics related to French is essential, and the ability to offer teaching in other areas, including other Romance languages (e.g., Spanish, Italian) is desirable. At the graduate level, the ability to offer Masters-level teaching and supervision in one or more areas supplementing existing departmental strengths is essential.
Areas where interest frequently exceed available supervision capacity include, but are not limited to: sociolinguistics, phonology, computation, and morphology. The duties of the role include giving lectures, classes, and tutorials in multiple areas of linguistics, including French linguistics; supervising Master’s students; participating in university examining; carrying out research to underpin teaching; and cooperating in the administrative work of the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics.
The post is tenable for 3 years from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter and is non-renewable.

£38,674 to £46,913 per annum : STANDARD GRADE 7
