Job summary

Derbyshire County Council seeks a Relief Deputy Unit Manager to support a Specialist Dementia Residential Unit. You will deputise for the Service Manager, lead care staff, and ensure high-quality, person-centred care for residents with dementia.

This senior position requires leadership, safeguarding knowledge, and strong communication. You will provide management cover during annual leave and sickness, guiding the team and collaborating with families and health professionals.

Qualifications

• NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
• Experience supporting people living with dementia.
• Supervisory or leadership experience within a care setting.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and person-centred practice.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Service Manager in their absence.
• Lead and support care staff to deliver person-centred care.
• Promote dignity, independence and wellbeing for residents.
• Oversee care planning, risk assessments and safeguarding practices.
• Support staff through supervision, coaching and mentoring.
• Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals and partner agencies.
• Assist with audits, quality assurance and service improvement activities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
