Job summary

Durham County Council is seeking a Specialist Support Worker for Deaf children and young people to join our Enhanced Learning Provisions in County Durham. You will support pupils in the classroom and in 1:1 or small group sessions, under the guidance of specialist teachers, with potential cross-site duties across primary, secondary, and outreach settings.

We look for qualifications in Childhood studies or related childcare frameworks, plus experience with Deaf pupils or SEND in mainstream

Qualifications

NNEB, Cache Level 3, BTEC Diploma in Childhood Studies or NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Educational/Early Years and Education, or working towards these qualifications.
Experience of, or a demonstrable awareness and interest in, supporting individuals or small groups of d/Deaf pupils within primary or secondary schools.
Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities in a mainstream setting.
Skills in British Sign Language or a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

Support pupils within the classroom as well as in 1:1 or small group specialist intervention situations, under the guidance of our specialist teachers.
You will initially be based in our primary provision but may be asked to work flexibly across any one of our primary, secondary and outreach settings, as and when the need arises.
Assist with the delivery of specialist interventions and contribute to safeguarding and inclusion.
