Job summary

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a dedicated Communicator / Communication Support Worker to join the Vision and Hearing Team within the Inclusion Service in the Education Department. You will adapt language, support deaf pupils, and help them access the National Curriculum.

You will work with teachers and families, check devices like hearing aids, and contribute to reports. A Sign Language Level 2 qualification is required; Signed English knowledge is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold Signature Sign Language Level 2 qualification.
• Knowledge of Signed English is desirable but not essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with pupils, families and staff.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Adapt and clarify language, reinforce concepts and vocabulary for pupils.
• Prepare appropriate learning materials and check pupil understanding.
• Support language development and participation in group discussions.
• Facilitate communication between pupils, staff and families.
• Maintain relevant records and contribute to reports and reviews.
