Job summary

RED Engineering Design seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer (Direct Current Power Systems) in London, Newcastle or Bicester. You will establish a new DC power design capability, develop reference designs for AI-ready data centres and act as the subject matter expert for DC power systems.

Role involves mentoring engineers, creating calculation templates, and collaborating across R&D and project teams to ensure robust, future-ready DC solutions in Europe.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of DC power distribution principles and power electronics.
• Ability to model DC systems and compare AC/DC options.
• Knowledge of UK, European and international standards and codes.
• Ability to produce design narratives, technical reports and calculation packs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Establish RED's in-house DC design and power modelling capability for high-density AI data centre infrastructure.
• Develop reference designs for DC AI factory infrastructure solutions with R&D collaboration.
• Act as RED's central expert for DC power system design, modelling, and technical assurance.
• Create training pathways to upskill electrical designers into DC design.
• Lead development of DC power distribution concepts for AI-ready data centres.
• Develop DC power system studies: load flow, voltage drop, fault conditions, protection.
