Ganymede Solutions in London is seeking a Day Shift Yard Protection Operative to support depot operations. You will safely operate CTS and mentor staff, delivering high standards of safety and customer experience while maintaining clean and orderly trains and sidings.
The role involves supervising teams, following health & safety procedures, coordinating activities on a Sunday–Saturday roster, and acting as a key point of contact for safety communications and incident reporting.

We are currently recruiting for Day Shift Yard Protection Operative to support safe and efficient depot operations. This is a safety-critical position responsible for operating Controlled Track Switches (CTS) to enable the 750V DC conductor rail equipment within depot sidings to be safely de-energised and re-energised, protecting personnel carrying out work from the risk of electrocution.
You will also lead and supervise teams responsible for delivering a safe, clean and high-quality train environment, ensuring operational standards and an excellent customer experience are maintained.
You will work 35 hours a week across a Sunday – Saturday roster with the working hours of 07:45am – 14:45pm
The Day Shift Yard Protection Operative will be responsible for safely delivering Yard Protection duties in line with operational procedures, company policies and industry standards. The role will involve operating CTS and contactor panel equipment, setting up Safe Systems of Work and supervising day-to-day depot activities, including train cleaning, servicing and maintenance.
You will lead and support allocated staff, monitor quality standards, inspect trains and infrastructure, supervise contractors and report any defects or safety concerns. The role will also involve working with Network Rail and internal teams, ensuring Health & Safety procedures are followed, reporting incidents and acting as the site's Fire Precautions Manager and designated First Aider.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a safety-critical environment, ideally with supervising or team leadership experience. Experience as a Train Carer would be desirable. You will need a strong understanding of Health & Safety, excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities within a busy depot environment.
Strong attention to detail, a commitment to high standards and the ability to follow procedures and safety requirements accurately are essential. Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence is also required for the role.
As a safety-critical position, this role carries direct responsibility for the health, safety, security, welfare and fire safety arrangements of your team. You will lead from the front by delivering and participating in regular safety meetings, briefings and training, while ensuring all designated team members receive vital safety communications at required intervals. Additionally, you will maintain full compliance across company standards, safety procedures and working-hour requirements to protect both your workforce and depot operations.
