Job summary

Hunter Bond is seeking an experienced DBA to join a growing FinTech in London. You will own the expansive database estate, covering MySQL and PostgreSQL (or QuestDB), with day-to-day administration, reliability, design and support.

You will write complex SQL, optimise queries, design backups, monitor health and performance, and collaborate with developers on integrations and dashboards (Grafana).

Qualifications

• Hands-on DBA experience in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL, with backup and restore strategies.
• Experience with QuestDB is a plus.
• Familiarity with Grafana and Observability tooling.
• Comfortable in Linux environments and the CLI.
• Ability to write complex SQL and optimize queries.
• Knowledge of indexing, query planning, and access controls.

Responsibilities

• Own the database estate, including administration, monitoring, HA, and reliability.
• Perform upgrades, patching, and version migrations.
• Design backups, restores, and relevant documentation.
• Monitor health, capacity, and performance; identify bottlenecks.
• Review schema changes with developers.

The role :

My client are a growing FinTech organisation looking to add a talented DBA to their team.

You will take ownership of the extensive Database estate, coding day to day administration, reliability, design and support across a range of Database technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Main point of contact for Database technologies including administration, monitoring, high availability, performance and reliability
• Database upgrades, patching and version migration
• Design and implementation of backup and restore procedures including relevant documentation
• Monitoring health, capacity, and performance, identifying bottlenecks
• Reviewing schema changes alongside developers
• Query optimisation, index design and access patterns
• Collaborating with developers on integrations
• Writing and optimising SQL queries for dashboards / reporting (Grafana etc.)
• Managing permissions and privileges

Required experience:

• Hands on experience working as a DBA
• Strong knowledge of MySQL
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or QuestDB
• Backup and Restore strategies
• Query planning, indexing strategies, connection management, role management
• Able to write complex SQL queries for both production and reporting
• Integrating database queries with dashboards such as Grafana or other Observability tooling
• Version controlled / branching database systems (e.g. Dolt)
• Familiarity with Redis / Elastic stack highly desirable
• Comfortable with Linux environments and the command line
