Job description

We are hiring on behalf of a global technology company. They combine advanced computing, digital innovation and deep scientific expertise to solve some of the hardest problems in natural resources, energy transition and infrastructure. Put simply, this is a business where the data is the product, and the volumes involved are enormous.

That means the database platform here is not a back office function. It sits directly underneath global production systems and one of the more substantial high performance computing environments in the UK.

The role

You will own and evolve the MongoDB and relational database estate that supports those platforms. It is a hands on, engineering led position rather than a traditional production DBA seat, so there is real scope to build, automate and improve rather than just keep the lights on.

Day to day you will:

  • Administer MongoDB sharded clusters and replica sets, alongside PostgreSQL environments
  • Tune performance, queries and configurations for high traffic, data intensive workloads
  • Own backup, restore, PITR and HA strategy across globally distributed systems
  • Monitor platform health using Ops Manager, Prometheus and Grafana
  • Work alongside software and infrastructure teams on schema design, automation and application performance
What they are looking for
  • A degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (this one is firm)
  • Proven production MongoDB administration, including sharding and replication
  • Solid PostgreSQL or equivalent enterprise RDBMS experience
  • Strong grounding in backup, recovery, PITR and high availability
  • Scripting and automation with Bash, Python or Golang
  • Exposure to Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab or wider DevOps practice is a real advantage
Why it is worth a look

Strong bonus scheme, generous pension contribution, private medical and dental, flexible benefits, holiday buy and sell plus a bank holiday swap, and a genuine learning and development budget. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are both on the table for the right person.
