Job summary

Octopus Energy Group is building a data-driven trading team in the UK, focused on GB intraday markets and renewables forecasting. We’re seeking a data scientist who can combine classical and ML techniques to create market-leading insights and flexible forecasting pipelines.

You’ll collaborate across Trading, Renewables and Analytics to deliver value from data, building pipelines, models, and front-end tools in a small, autonomous team.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python and ML techniques.
• Ability to design and iterate forecasting models.
• Strong communication of methods, strengths and limitations.
• Understanding of commercial concepts and trading context.
• Team player with impact across projects.
• Passion for Net Zero and energy systems.
• Experience deploying models to production or real-world use.
• GB electricity/energy industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Exploring data needed to trade the GB intraday market.
• Build, improve and maintain demand and generation forecasting models.
• Find high-quality data sources for forecasts.
• Develop forecasting framework and tools.
• Automate forecasting processes with checks and alerts.
• Use models to enhance price forecasts.
• Collaborate with Trading, Renewables and Analytics teams.
• Develop software and front-end systems within the team.
