The Young Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation driving community research and social innovation. We bring communities, organisations, and policymakers together to understand the issues people care about and support collective action to improve lives. We involve communities in research and innovate together to inspire positive change. We deliver distinctive initiatives and programmes to shape a fairer future. We also power the Institute for Community Studies.
We are seeking a collaborative data scientist to work with colleagues across The Young Foundation and our partner organisations in the National Civic Impact Accelerator.
The post-holder will primarily focus on data science and Tableau development support for our Civic Impact Dashboard and Place Data Playbook. Our Civic Impact Dashboard prototype was launched in March 2025. Over the next six months, we aim to incorporate user feedback into subsequent iterations—adding more data to cover other domains of the Civic Impact Framework and making design improvements for accessibility and user experience.
As the data scientist contractor, you will lead the development of the dashboard using Tableau, working collaboratively as part of a small, dedicated UCD development team of three members.
You will have flexibility to schedule your work remotely, except for an online workshop planned for Tuesday, 1 July, 11:00 – 12:30, and the in-person CiviCon conference in Sheffield, where the final dashboard will be launched on Tuesday, 14 – Wednesday, 15 October.
You will also need to attend a regular weekly 30-minute online meeting, currently scheduled on Thursday afternoons, but this can be adjusted if needed.
Please share your experience and reasons for applying, along with your CV, to applications@youngfoundation.org by 10 am, 29 May 2025.
