Job description

About AXA:

AXA is a global leader in insurance and financial services, dedicated to helping customers protect what matters most to them. As the sixth-largest insurance company in the world, we provide a wide range of services, including health, car, home, and business insurance. We support millions of customers worldwide, helping them navigate life's uncertainties with confidence.

Job overview:

As part of our ambitious strategy, AXA Health is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our dynamic and innovative team. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and deploying data science and AI solutions that deliver real commercial value and improve the health and well-being of our customers. If you're passionate about using data and AI to make a genuine difference, we want to hear from you!

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead and deliver data science and AI projects across the full lifecycle, from problem definition and business case development through to model deployment.
  • Apply a broad range of AI and data science methodologies across multi-modal data sources, tackling complex challenges spanning the entire customer journey, from acquisition and retention through to servicing, claims, and beyond.
  • Communicate findings and results clearly and compellingly to non-technical audiences, while educating and inspiring stakeholders on the transformative potential of AI and data science.
  • Take full ownership of existing ML/AI models, ensuring robust and ongoing monitoring of performance, data drift, scoring latency, and continuous optimisation.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory frameworks and data privacy standards, while proactively championing AXA's Responsible AI principles throughout every stage of the project lifecycle.
  • Commit to continuous professional development, staying at the forefront of emerging trends in AI and data science and actively sharing knowledge across the team.
Work arrangements:

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

Your skills & experience:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a numerical field like data science, AI, maths, statistics, or computer science, with the ability to explain how technical work impacts the business.
  • Demonstrable experience with supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning methods, applying these to solve real business problems, especially in financial services or regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience managing end-to-end AI projects, from building models, testing, deploying, to analysing results, and communicating their value to non-technical colleagues.
  • Skilled in developing and deploying generative AI solutions, including LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG techniques, and AI agents.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms such as Azure and Databricks, and familiarity with Azure DevOps tools like Boards, Repos, and Pipelines.
  • Good knowledge of explainable AI and best practices in MLOps and LLMOps, with the ability to explain their importance.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with the ability to present data insights clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams, with a focus on collaboration and responsible, ethical AI practices, and understanding how technical work supports business goals.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
