Job summary

BT Group is seeking a data science leader to guide a team of analysts across Networks. You will translate complex business problems into data-driven ML solutions, build scalable data products, and collaborate with engineering, product and business stakeholders.

The role collaborates with cloud platforms, requires telecom domain knowledge and a proven track record in regulated environments. Hybrid role with UK offices, including Ipswich, London, Birmingham or Belfast.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience applying ML, AI and statistics to real-world business problems.
  • Hands-on Python and data science techniques, with a strong foundation in math and statistics.
  • Experience leading technical teams and coaching colleagues.
  • Experience in large, regulated organisations and telecom domains.
  • Experience deploying ML solutions in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of data scientists and analysts.
  • Translate business challenges into practical data science solutions using ML and statistics.
  • Design, build and deploy scalable data products for Networks and BT Group.
  • Work with large-scale network datasets to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, product and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Communicate complex findings through data storytelling, visuals and recommendations.
  • Drive innovation and shape the future direction of Data Science and AI within BT Networks.

Job description

Salary: £36,000 - 67,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Proven experience applying machine learning, AI and statistical techniques to solve complex, real-world business problems, with the ability to take a challenge from problem definition through to implementation and measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on expertise in Python and modern data science techniques, supported by a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics and analytics.
  • Comfortable working with large-scale datasets and developing data-driven solutions.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams, with the ability to create high-performing environments, manage challenging situations and support colleagues to grow and succeed.
  • Experience working within large, complex or regulated organisations.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications, networking, broadband, voice, TV or related infrastructure domains.
  • Experience deploying and operationalising machine learning solutions in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including influencing senior audiences and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience driving data-driven transformation or establishing new AI and analytics capabilities within an organisation.
