Job description

About the role

As a Data Science and AI Engineer, you'll help unlock the value hidden within some of the UK's most diverse and complex datasets.

Working alongside experienced technical specialists, you'll apply data science, advanced analytics, machine learning and emerging AI techniques to solve real-world challenges that have genuine operational and societal impact.

You’ll work across a broad range of customer and business problems, helping transform data into actionable insight, supporting evidence-based decision making and contributing to innovative solutions that create measurable value.

No two assignments are likely to be the same. You could find yourself evaluating emerging AI technologies, developing classification models, exploring opportunities for automation, building analytical solutions or helping stakeholders understand complex information through clear and meaningful insight.

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise to problems that are often unique in their scale, complexity and importance while contributing to the responsible adoption of AI across secure and mission-focused environments.

Note: This role requires eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. As a result, applicants must typically be sole British citizens and have lived in the UK continuously for the previous 10 years, subject to UK Government vetting requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Depending on your skills, interests and experience, you may:

  • Apply Data Science, Machine Learning and AI techniques to transform complex data into actionable insight and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop, evaluate and continuously improve analytical models, predictive capabilities and AI-driven solutions.
  • Collabora with multidisciplinary teams to solve challenging operational, business and customer problems.
  • Communicate complex findings through clear visualisations, storytelling and stakeholder engagement.
  • Explore, test and evaluate emerging AI technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and adoption.
  • Contribute to responsible AI practices, helping ensure solutions are secure, transparent and appropriately governed.
  • Support the growth of the wider Data Science and AI community through collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
Essential Skills / Experience

We recognise that no candidate is likely to match every requirement listed below. If you're excited by the opportunity and believe you can contribute, we'd encourage you to apply. We're interested in your skills, potential and passion for solving meaningful problems, not simply whether you've worked with a specific technology before.

  • Experience applying Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or Advanced Analytics to solve practical challenges.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to turn data into meaningful insight.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience working collaboratively to deliver outcomes within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Curiosity, adaptability and a desire to continuously learn and embrace new technologies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain UK Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
Desirable Skills / Experience
  • Experience developing, evaluating or operationalising AI or machine learning solutions.
  • Knowledge of Generative AI, modern data platforms or cloud technologies.
  • Experience presenting insights through visualisation, dashboards or decision‑support tools.
