Job summary

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Data Quality Officer to join the Cancer Services Department. You will collate and validate patient data on the SCR system, support wait time data and contribute to national audits, with occasional home working and base sites in Darlington and North Durham.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate data collection, timely reporting and compliance with COSD and NHS data standards.

Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well-organised andmotivated individual to work within our Cancer Services Department in CountyDurham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The position will be based at our office in Darlington MemorialHospital or University Hospital of North Durham with the opportunity for someoccasional home working.

The Data Quality Officer isan integral part of the cancer services team and will work closely with thecancer site specific multidisciplinary teams to collate and validate patientdata on the Somerset Cancer Registry (SCR) system and/or associated interfacesto ensure the system holds correct and up to date patient data. The post holder will also work alongsidecancer wait time colleagues to provide administrative support for CancerSite-Specific Multidisciplinary Team meetings.

Youwill play a pivotal role in supporting the department to meet its objectives inrelation to the collection of data for reporting to the national cancer auditsand Cancer Services Outcomes Dataset (COSD).The post holder will be responsible for the data collection of the keyperformance indicators associated with these mandated datasets

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the Cancer Services DataQuality Co-ordinators you will help raise awareness of the importance ofaccurate and up to date information and undertake data audits to assess thequality of the information. You willensure data is collected on patients with a suspected or diagnosed cancer,ensuring information is recorded accurately.

You will collate clinicaldata using multiple information sources ranging from existing hospital systems,multi-disciplinary discussion documentation and external hospitalnotifications. This will involveacknowledging and adhering to set deadlines and validation methods to ensureaccurate reporting.

Toassist in the process of routinely validating the data held within the SCRsystem, working pro-actively with the Data Quality Co-ordinator, healthcareprofessionals and Cancer Pathway Co-ordinators to address and resolve dataquality issues, you must have a sound understanding of patient-related activitydata. Data must be accurately and consistently recorded to well-definedstandards to enable it to be used for statistical analysis, both locally andnationally.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will explore unusual or missing data items and liaise with CancerServices Quality Co-ordinators over a variety of data quality issues, and underguidance, ensure corrections are made as instructed.

You will have very goodcommunication and people skills, as you will be required to liaise withmultiple departments and multiple levels of staff in order to ensure thatrelevant cooperation is achieved in the provision of information and datadistribution. Excellent organisational skills are essential, as the post holderwould be required to work mainly under their own supervision and manage theirown workload in such a way that reflects the Trusts operational and reportingdeadlines. The nature of the post demands that the post holder multi-task andmaintain concentration levels, despite the work-pattern occasionally beinginterrupted.

Accuracy and attention todetail are vital in this role; the post holder must ensure that the informationcollated and recorded accurately reflects the patient pathway, which in turndetermines Trust compliance to various nationally published annual reports.

You will need good ITskills, with experience of using Outlook, Word and Excel and some experience ofusing hospital administration systems would be an advantage.

The post holder will haveday-to-day responsibility for the collation, entry, validation and extractionof data supported in the operational use of SCR, collecting cancer data toensure the national cancer audits, NHS England SSQD frameworks and COSD reportingrequirements are completed.

Monitoring and updatingdata set items and inputting missing information into the SCR patient recordsforms a large part of the job role responsibilities.

Prior experience of workingin the NHS in an administrative role, particularly in an audit related area isdesirable.
