Job summary

Home Group is seeking an experienced data protection professional to support compliance and advise colleagues on the lawful use of personal data. Working with the Data Protection Manager, you will handle data requests, data breaches, and risk assessments.

This hands-on role requires practical communication, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex rules into clear guidance for teams across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of UK data protection law.
  • Experience handling data subject rights, data breaches and Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Expert knowledge of Subject Access Requests, including those raised by colleagues.
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly to all levels of the organisation.
  • Good judgement and constructive challenge when needed.
  • A data protection qualification is held.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, practical data protection advice across services and projects.
  • Lead on managing data breaches and support proportionate risk decisions.
  • Manage governance records and reporting, including Records of Processing Activities.
  • Handle complex Information Rights Requests with care.
  • Complete and review Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Support teams designing systems and processes involving personal data.
  • Identify compliance gaps and translate them into practical improvements.

Job description

You’ll play a key role in implementing data protection best practice across Home Group. Working closely with the Data Protection Manager, you’ll support compliance delivery by advising colleagues on the lawful and responsible use of personal data. Using your expertise, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference for our customers and colleagues. From consulting on new systems to handling data breaches and complex information requests, this is a hands‑on role where your judgement, communication skills and attention to detail really matter.

What you’ll do
  • Provide clear, practical data protection advice across services and projects.
  • Lead on managing data breaches and supporting proportionate risk decisions.
  • Manage governance records and management reporting, including our Records of Processing Activities.
  • Complete complex Information Rights Requests, handling sensitive records with care.
  • Complete and review Data Protection Impact Assessments with confidence.
  • Support teams designing new systems and ways of working involving personal data.
  • Spot compliance gaps and turn them into practical, workable improvements.

You have
  • A strong working knowledge of UK data protection law.

  • Confidence explaining complex issues in clear, practical language, to all levels of the organisation.
  • Sound judgement and can challenge constructively when needed.
  • You have a data protection qualification

The practical bits
  • You’ll work Monday to Friday
  • Hybrid working, from home and two days a week from our office in Newcastle, Leeds or Birmingham City Centre.
  • The Data Protection team are based around the country, so you will be asked to travel from time to time to meet with colleagues.
