Job summary

Preply is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Data Platform in London. You will lead a data engineering team, shaping the data foundation, pipelines, and governance to support analytics, ML, and product initiatives.

You will partner with Analytics, ML Platform, and Product teams to deliver high-value datasets and reliable data products, while coaching engineers and maintaining an inclusive, performance-driven culture.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering experience
• 5+ years in engineering management
• Experience leading data or platform engineering teams
• Strong technical judgment and systems thinking
• Excellent collaboration with Analytics, ML, Product teams

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high-performing data engineering team.
• Coach engineers, provide feedback, and foster inclusive culture.
• Define and drive long-term vision for Preply's data foundation: Lakehouse, ingestion, contracts, and governance.
• Partner with Analytics, ML Platform, Data Science, and Product to prioritize datasets, pipelines, and tooling.
• Own execution, translate strategy into plans, balance investment with near-term needs, ensure speed and quality.
• Provide technical leadership across batch and streaming ingestion, data modeling, quality, and governance.
• Establish data reliability, observability, and incident response for pipelines.
• Champion engineering best practices and evolving tech stack.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to maximize impact and align on data ownership and standards.
• Oversee hiring quality and team operating model.
