Job summary

Arbuthnot Latham is a private and commercial banking group seeking a senior Data Governance lead to drive governance across data, compliance and risk. You will lead the Data Quality team and embed a mature operating model for data ownership and stewardship.

You will work with IT and business units to implement governance, define policies, monitor KPIs, and promote data literacy while ensuring GDPR and PRA/FS regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

  • Strong governance and data quality experience in regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of GDPR and data protection acts.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks and policies.
  • Excellent communication and data storytelling abilities.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

Working closelywith the wider data team, engineers, analysts, compliance, and business functions to ensure data is governed, understood, and fit for purpose across its lifecycle, the role will lead the development and embedding of an enhanced data governance regime, evolving our current approach into a more mature, structured and fully embedded operating model (including data ownership and active stewardship engagement).

Furthermore this role will manage and extend our internal Data Quality function, ensuring issues are identified and remediated with minimal impact on the business, or our clients.

To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Data Quality team to ensure that data integrity risks are identified and remediated, and that data quality KPIs are defined and pro-actively monitored.
  • Lead the definition and implementation of the data governance regime, including ways of working, policies, standards and procedures, ensuring alignment with the Banks goals and objectives.
  • Formalise and embed the new operating model for data ownership and stewardship, collaborating with and mentoring data owners and stewards to promote accountability for data quality, security, and compliance.
  • Work with IT and business teams to implement practical data governance solutions and embed governance into routine processes.
  • Develop a metric-based monitoring approach to Data Governance, to track progress, adoption and maturity.
  • Ensure data management practices comply with relevant laws and regulatory frameworks, such as GDPR, Data Protection Act, FCA/PRA regulation.
  • Promote better use and management of data and improving data literacy across the organisation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, advocating for robust governance across business and IT functions.
  • Present data governance updates, challenges, and risks to governance forums.
  • Manage data risks and issues, coordinating with data owners and risk management teams to resolve or accept them.
  • Stay informed on emerging data-related regulations and perform horizon scanning to assess their impact.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience/Skills:

  • Strong influencing skills to drive governance adoption across technical and non-technical teams
  • Strong hands-on experience and technical skills in Data. Specifically, manipulating, assessing the quality of, building an understanding of, and reporting on, both structured and unstructured data
  • Highly experienced in leading Data Quality initiatives and teams, as a Data practitioner
  • Highly Experienced in defining and leading data governance initiatives in regulated environments such as financial services or insurance.
  • Excellent understanding of data management principles including data quality, metadata, lineage, classification, and stewardship.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, such as GDPR, and other data protection acts.
  • Experience with Azure Purview, or similar data governance and metadata tools.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to articulate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail. Must be able to interpret and report on complex data and technical information.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and manage change effectively.
