Our Chief Operating Office (COO) are the backbone of The AA, providing both stability and structure to support growth and innovation. We are the drivers of change.

This is the job

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a visible impact in a business where data is central to decision making, customer outcomes, risk management and operational performance. You’ll help lead the rollout and maturity of our Data Governance Framework, working closely with business stakeholders, data teams, privacy, information security and risk colleagues to improve the quality, transparency and value of our core data assets.

You’ll be joining a small, collaborative Data Governance team, so this role will suit someone who is comfortable operating at both strategic and hands‑on levels. You’ll lead governance activity, manage priorities, support the development of standards and processes, and act as a trusted point of escalation for data governance, data quality and data protection matters.

You’ll work with the Head of Data Governance and Management to continue the rollout and evolution of The AA’s Data Governance Framework, including associated tools, processes and maturity roadmap. The role is responsible for improving transparency and quality across governed data, including definitions, ownership, lineage, RACI, quality scoring and business cases for fixing data quality issues at source.

What will I be doing?
  • Lead the rollout and ongoing maturity of The AA’s Data Governance Framework, including associated tools, processes and roadmap.
  • Work with business stakeholders and Data Team colleagues to define, capture and publish data definitions, KPI definitions, ownership, RACI, lineage and data quality measures.
  • Drive improvements in the quality, transparency and value of core data assets, including identifying business cases to resolve data quality issues at source.
  • Manage data governance forums, stakeholder meetings and change requests, ensuring priorities are clear and actions are delivered.
  • Partner with Data Privacy, Information Security, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure governance activity supports regulatory, security and internal control requirements.
  • Lead, coach and support the Data Governance team, while deputising for the Head of Data Governance and Management when required.
What do I need?
  • Strong practical experience in data governance, either in a senior governance role or with the capability to step into a first leadership position.
  • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Purview or a similar data governance tool, including business glossary or catalogue, lineage and data quality.
  • Solid understanding of data concepts such as data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, data ownership, data definitions, lineage, quality and retention.
  • Working knowledge of regulations and governance requirements relating to data held by financial services organisations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to chair forums, influence senior stakeholders and explain complex data topics clearly.
  • Strong planning, problem‑solving and delivery skills, with experience coaching, mentoring or managing others.
Benefits
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays + holiday buying scheme
  • Worksave pension scheme with up to 7% employer contribution
  • Free AA breakdown membership from Day 1 plus 50% discount for family and friends
  • Discounts on AA products including car and home insurance
  • Employee discount scheme that gives you access to a car salary sacrifice scheme plus great discounts on healthcare, shopping, holidays and more
  • Company funded life assurance
  • Diverse learning and development opportunities to support you to progress in your career
  • Dedicated Employee Assistance Programme and a 24/7 remote GP service for you and your family
