JOB TYPE: Fixed term (until 28.02.2027)

LOCATION: Southampton, United Kingdom

Role Summary

The Data Governance Lead is responsible for the overall data design across all Operations master data objects, data governance model, data governance transformation, and end to end enablement of Operations master data processes for BAT’s enterprise and ground-breaking projects and initiatives.

The role is responsible for setting the overall data governance framework within and provide expert data guidance to BAT’s projects, functions and CoEs.

Accountabilities
  1. Design and maintenance of Data Governance Model
    • Own data governance processes and overall operating model including handling exception cases and waivers
    • Drive improvements in data governance framework to engage BAT partners, increase data literacy and governance scope
    • Handle impacts to the data governance model and end to end data design as part of enterprise projects and coordinate new data standards with BAU data stewards
    • Ensure a solid framework to collect and provide visibility on documentation and maintenance of metadata, including data definitions, business rules, and data lineage.
  2. Data Governance on BAT’s enterprise and transformational projects
    • Lead or contribute to data workstreams, ensuring data governance principles are embedded in project planning and execution.
    • Act as Operations data SME, dealing with the complex data issues facing BAT’s projects
    • Be an ambassador for sound MDM principles and architecture to facilitate robust data practices in BAU
  3. Process governance and continuous improvement
    • Own core data governance tools and platforms (Alation, Data Governance Artifacts, etc), requirements meet business needs, govern and maintain the ODM Global Operating Model (GOM), ensuring all processes and changes are up-to-date and aligned to standards.
    • Drive transformation of the data governance maturity and value delivery within BAT through working with partners and execution teams
  4. Organisational Change & Communication
    • Lead communication and training efforts to promote data governance awareness and adoption across the organization.
    • Support change initiatives related to MDM systems, processes, or policies.
    • Facilitate data governance councils or working groups to drive consensus and decision-making.
Essential Experience
  • Demonstrated ability working with appropriate ERP systems (SAP, Kinaxis, etc.) in the field of product specifications, supply chain management, technology or related subject.
  • Experience with MDM solutions inc. Data Quality and Data Cataloguing tools in a centralised Data Governance function
  • Excellent knowledge of the BAT business and data operating model built over several years of operating within the BAT Operations (Product, Supply Chain, Leaf etc)
  • Understand the criticality of tightly controlled data management, data standards and data quality processes
  • Confirmed competence in project management techniques and work prioritisation.
  • Shown influencing skills with partners across the business functions and grades from non-management up to the Heads of Global Ops Functions.
  • Highly SAP system literate.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills
  • Strong relationship and interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Ability to identify, initiate and lead work on multi-functional data issues.
  • Able to deconstruct complex data issues and convey them in a business relevant format to key business partners and forums with simple and clear messages.
  • Proficient in numerical reasoning and critical analysis.
  • Solid attention to detail.
  • Reasoned, systematic, and objective thinking and decision making.
  • Crucial/determined decision maker.
  • Structured, planned approach to work.
  • Fluent English with good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent skills for prioritising multiple tasks, deadline-conscious, completer-finisher and customer service oriented.
