Job summary

Careerwise is seeking a hands-on Business Analyst – Data Governance & Microsoft Purview to work with business stakeholders, Data Owners and data teams to deliver governance improvements and measurable business value in a hybrid UK environment.

The role focuses on requirements gathering, governance controls, Purview implementation, data quality, metadata and lineage, plus collaboration with Data Engineering and Analytics to drive practical outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven BA experience in Data, Analytics, Governance or Transformation programmes.
• Strong understanding of Data Governance and Data Management principles.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview.
• Knowledge of Data Cataloguing, Business Glossary, Metadata, Lineage and Data Quality.
• Experience working with Data Owners and Data Stewards.
• Strong requirements gathering, process mapping and stakeholder management.
• Ability to use SQL for data-quality investigations.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Visio and Microsoft 365.

Responsibilities

• Gather, analyse and document requirements for data governance initiatives.
• Define current-state and future-state processes, data flows, roles and governance controls.
• Support data ownership, stewardship, metadata management and data quality initiatives.
• Support adoption of Microsoft Purview, including Data Map, Unified Catalog, Business Glossary, Classifications, Lineage and Collections.
• Translate business needs into functional requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Facilitate stakeholder workshops, interviews and playback sessions.
• Develop and maintain process maps, data dictionaries, glossaries and RAID logs.
• Use SQL, reporting tools and data profiling outputs to support data-quality analysis.
