Aviva plc is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead a skilled team in the UK. You’ll provide technical direction, coaching and hands‑on contribution while aligning with the data strategy and governance.

You’ll design and maintain robust data pipelines, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure accurate, reconciled data from extraction to reporting and visualization. You’ll also shape engineering standards, promote agile delivery, and foster continuous learning within the team.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical delivery and setting high standards for engineering solutions.
• Strong SQL and dbt skills with experience designing and managing data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data architecture, data warehousing, modelling and data quality.
• Proven people leadership, coaching and development abilities.
• Stakeholder collaboration with familiarity in Power BI, Qlik or Tableau is beneficial.

Data Engineering Manager

Salary: National circa £50,000 / London: circa £65,000

Locations: Norwich, Perth, London

A bit about the job

You’ll lead a small team of engineers, providing technical direction, coaching and support while continuing to contribute as a hands‑on specialist.

Working closely with other Data Engineering teams, project teams and business stakeholders, you’ll design, build and maintain robust data pipelines and help develop a governed, strategic data asset for Commercial Lines and Distribution. You’ll ensure data is accurate and fully reconciled from extraction through to reporting and visualisation.

You’ll also help shape engineering standards and ways of working, prioritise delivery against the data strategy and use agile methods to deliver high-quality solutions at pace. As a people leader, you’ll create an environment of continuous learning, collaboration and improvement across the team.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

• Strong SQL & dbt skills and experience designing, building and managing robust data pipelines
• Good knowledge of data architecture, data warehousing, modelling and data quality.
• Experience leading technical delivery and setting high standards for engineering solutions.
• People leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop and support a high-performing team.
• Strong stakeholder and collaboration skills; experience with Power BI, Qlik, Tableau or Agile environments would be beneficial.
