Job summary

RSK Group seeks a Data Engineering Manager in London (hybrid, 3 days in office). You will lead the data engineering and analytics teams, shaping the data platform and overseeing Snowflake and DBT usage to support company reporting and decision-making.

You will recruit, develop and line-manage engineers, own the platform roadmap, and drive knowledge transfer from contractors to the permanent team. This role balances new development with keeping operations reliable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the group's data engineering and analytics engineering capability including pipelines, Snowflake, DBT, models and datasets for group reporting.
• Build and grow an in-house team: recruit, develop, line-manage and retain engineers.
• Plan knowledge transfer from delivery partners into the permanent team; own the core platform knowledge.
• Own delivery: prioritise, plan, commit and report progress for funded priorities.
• Balance new build with maintenance; standardise pipelines and declare running costs for new assets.
• Make data onboarding for acquisitions a repeatable product with a quick time-to-live target.
• Own the technical roadmap for the platform with the Group Head of Data and Analytics.

Job description

As part of the RSK Groups continued growth, we are recruiting for a Data Engineering Manager to lead the development of our data platform and engineering capability.

This is a full time, hybrid role(minimum 3 days per week in the office) based at our office in London - Chancery Exchange.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team, overseeing our Snowflake and dbt platforms, and delivering the scalable, reliable data solutions that support reporting, analytics and business decision-making across the Group. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in a growing and evolving data function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the group's data engineering and analytics engineering capability - the pipelines, the Snowflake and DBT platform, and the models and datasets that group reporting is built on.
• Build and grow a permanent in-house team: recruit, develop, line-manage and retain engineers, and create the conditions in which good engineers want to stay.
• Plan and complete the transfer of knowledge from delivery partners and contractors into the permanent team, so that core platform knowledge is owned rather than rented.
• Own delivery: prioritise ruthlessly, plan realistically, commit publicly and report progress honestly - keeping a small team focused on a few funded priorities rather than spread thinly across many.
• Hold the balance between new build and keeping the lights on: standardise pipelines, automate checks, retire low-value assets, and require every new asset to declare its expected running cost before it is built.
• Make data onboarding for newly acquired businesses a repeatable product with a target time from completion to data-live, and be accountable for hitting it.
• Own the technical roadmap for the platform with the Group Head of Data and Analytics - ingestion, warehouse, transformation, orchestration and BI infrastructure.

Person Specification:

• A relevant degree (e.g. computer science, engineering, mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience leading and line-managing a data engineering or analytics engineering team, with a hands-on engineering background behind it.
• Technical credibility across the modern data stack - Snowflake, DBT, Fivetran, Azure Data Factory, Python, advanced SQL - enough to make architectural calls and to review work properly.
• A track record of delivering a data platform in a complex, multi-source environment rather than a single tidy estate; experience integrating data from acquisitions is highly desirable.
• Strong delivery management: prioritisation, planning, roadmaps and dependable commitments under real constraints.
• Experience bringing outsourced or partner-delivered work in-house, including structured knowledge transfer, is highly desirable.
