Job summary

Southampton FC on Staplewood Campus seeks a hands-on Data Engineer to own and evolve the club's data platform, enabling data collection, governance and reporting across the organisation.

You will lead the implementation, build scalable pipelines in Python, ensure data quality and security, and collaborate with Data Scientists and coaching staff to deliver analytics for recruitment, opposition analysis and sports science.

Qualifications

• Experience building scalable data pipelines using Python.
• Proficient in SQL and core data modelling concepts.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks).
• Understanding of data privacy, governance and quality standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Desirable understanding of sporting data (GPS, event data, tracking data).

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical implementation and configuration of the football data platform.
• Build and maintain robust data pipelines to support analytics and reporting.
• Ensure data quality, governance and compliance with data protection regulations.
• Perform DBA duties including performance tuning, indexing, backups and access management.
• Develop AI agents to monitor data pipelines and maintain code integrity with Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Sports Science/coaching teams to deliver requirements.
